Last year, online reports indicated that Stecia Mayanja, a renowned Ugandan singer and actress, had relocated to America due to health issues, in search of better medical care. The news sparked speculation across social media and entertainment circles.
However, in a revealing interview, Stecia offered clarity not just about her journey abroad, but also her emotional and physical struggles while living overseas. While she spoke fondly of her time in Canada, she also unveiled the deep disappointments she faced in America, which ultimately led her to make the bold decision to "voluntarily deport" herself.
Finding Hope in Canada
During her time in Canada, Stecia expressed gratitude for the opportunities she encountered. “I am grateful that my dreams have come true,” she said, describing Canada as “the land of opportunities.” Her words reflected a brief period of satisfaction and hopefulness—before her experience in the U.S. shifted her perspective entirely.
Clearing the Air: “I Was Never Deported”
One of the key moments in her interview was Stecia addressing rumors of her deportation from America. She made it clear: “I was never deported.”
Instead, she made the deliberate choice to return to Uganda, having come to terms with the difficult reality many in the diaspora silently endure.
“The System Was Using Me”
Stecia didn’t hold back when sharing the harsh conditions she faced in the U.S. She said she worked with mentally disordered individuals—often under dangerous and dehumanizing circumstances.
“They beat me up,” she shared. “I cleaned their poop and the places where they lived.” Over time, she felt she was being exploited by a system that only valued her labor. “It was like they were using me to work for them until my last breath. That’s not life—that’s enslavement.”
Burnout and Overwork: The Breaking Point
One of her greatest struggles in America was being overworked. Stacia said she was working “morning, day, and night,” only to find that even with all her effort, she had little to no savings. The endless grind left her physically and emotionally drained.
Faced with exhaustion, frustration, and a lack of fulfillment, she decided to leave America for good.
A Courageous Return to Uganda
In October 2024, Stecia Mayanja returned home to Uganda, not in shame or defeat—but in power. She reclaimed her narrative by stating that she had “voluntarily deported” herself, recognizing that sometimes, walking away is the strongest move one can make.
Today, Stecia is reconnecting with her roots and focusing on a fresh chapter in her life and career.
