Rising Ugandan artist Joshua Baraka, widely recognized as one of the key figures shaping the future of East African music, has boldly declared that the industry is on the brink of a major transformation. According to him, the evolving soundscape is not just a trend — it’s the beginning of a new era in Afro-fusion, Afrobeat, and contemporary African music.
“The music and sound are changing right now,” Baraka shared. “Very soon, things are going to be difficult for unserious artists.”
Known for his genre-bending creativity and sharp lyrical delivery, Baraka believes the time has come for the African music industry to cleanse itself. He warns that artists who aren’t putting in the work — the so-called “jokers” — will either be pushed out by default or forced to raise their game drastically.

“This new wave is about innovation, consistency, and authenticity,” he added. “You can’t fake it anymore. The audience is sharper. The vibe is different.”
As Afropop continues to dominate global charts and more African voices gain international attention, Baraka’s message is clear: evolve or exit. The next chapter of Ugandan music and African sound is here — and only the serious will survive.
