Doreen Gift Bujjingo Named Among 2025 Mandela Washington Fellows

Ugandan ICT infrastructure engineer Doreen Gift Bujjingo has been selected as one of the 2025 Mandela Washington Fellows for Young African Leaders, a flagship program under the U.S. government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

According to a statement from the U.S. Mission in Uganda on Tuesday, June 17, Doreen will be heading to Arizona State University under the Leadership in Public Management track. 

“She is passionate about driving Uganda’s digital transformation through projects that expand broadband connectivity, promote digital skilling, and enhance e-service delivery,” the Mission stated via X (formerly Twitter).

Doreen currently works as an ICT infrastructure engineer at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, where she plays a critical role in advancing digital initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery. Her participation in the prestigious U.S.-sponsored fellowship highlights her growing influence in Uganda’s digital sector and her commitment to empowering communities through technology.

 The Mandela Washington Fellowship brings together over 700 young leaders from across Africa annually for leadership training and networking opportunities in the United States.
